Village Motor Werks Fundraiser Great Success
Thanks to everyone who came by Village Motor Werks and supported the fundraiser put on by Pam, Greg, and a host of volunteers. The food was great, the band was wonderful, and a fun time was had by all. Folks contributed over $1900 to support the work of The Hope Center.
State Employees Combined Campaign
The Hope Center at Pullen is listed as one of the charities that state employees can select for charitable contributions. If you are a state employee or have family or friends who work for the state, we hope you will consider The Hope Center as your charity of choice and encourage others to support our ministry.
Expanding our services - Foster Youth Program
The Hope Center at Pullen is pleased to announce that we are launching a homelessness prevention program that will target youth ages 17 to 22 who were involved in the foster care system. Research conducted by the National Alliance to End Homelessness indicated that former foster youth are disproportionately represented in the homeless population and that 3 out of 10 homeless adults spent time in this system.
The goal of the Hope Center at Pullen Youth Program is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote prosocial relationships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. The Hope Center team will partner with Haven House Services and Wake Technical Community College's Fostering Bright Futures to offer a full continuum of services that includes job readiness and employment development, life skills, mentoring, counseling, housing, and education. Each partner in the collaborative has expertise in its respective area, and enhances the work of the other. Extensive planning and careful consideration have gone into the development of this program, which will increase the effectiveness of the collaboration.
JobLink Access Point closes February 9
Due to program expansion and lack of space for our program activities that needed to take place in our center, we notified the Capital Area Workforce Board in early January that we could no longer be a JobLink Access Point Center. Since there is a new JobLink center in our area (Cameron Village Library) our participants will be referred to that site. While we are sad to lose contact with the folks who visited our center, we rejoice in our program's growth and expansion.

Welcome to our new intern
We are excited to introduce Sakinah Omar, our new intern at the Hope Center. Sakinah started work on January 10 and is working 32 hours a week providing direct assistance to our program participants who are seeking employment and support services.
Sakinah says that what she loves most about working at the Hope Center is "working with program participants to enable them learn to use the resources to find jobs, education, and skills training." She will be with us for the next four months helping to provide higher quality services to the individuals we are dedicated to helping.
Hope Center at Pullen Promotes Diane Daily to Executive Director
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Diane Daily, our current Program Manager for the Job Readiness Program, has accepted the position of Executive Director for the Center. Diane has been working with us for almost a year and has brought a wealth of skill and experience.
Before she started working at the Hope Center at Pullen, Diane had experience in leading a nonprofit, grant writing, and fund development, as well as designing and implementing programs.
Over the last year, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the homeless population, excellent skills in effectively using volunteers, and has significantly strengthened the Job Readiness Program. Through her leadership, we have expanded the program to serve 20 participants, 10 more than we served each year previously. With her leadership, we are excited about the future of The Hope Center
